Fun with Oobleck

All you need is some corn starch, water, and some food coloring to have a lot of fun and maybe even a bit of learning.

In Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr Suess. A gooey, sticky, green mess fell from the sky. Now, in the world of science we call a substance that pours like a liquid and is solid when squeezed or hit Oobleck. I just call it a lot of fun and great for an inside kind of day or even outside in a baby pool.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 parts corn starch
  • 1 part water
  • a few drops of food coloring if you wish

Directions:

  • Pour water into a container
  • Slowly add cornstarch
  • Mix the ingredients together
  • Carefully add additional cornstarch until you have the right consistency
  • It can flow between your fingers but becomes solid when squeezed or hit

Some fun things to try:

  • Slowly slide your hand into the mixture
  • Try to take your hand out quickly
  • Now try slowly taking your hand out
  • Squeeze it in your hand
  • Let it flow out between your fingers
  • Push it into a container
  • Try to get it out quickly and slowly
  • Have a blast!
