Let’s raise your confidence so YOU can help your child succeed in Kindergarten.
File this one under “How did I almost miss this?” and you’re probably doing a happy dance right about now because you’re right on time.
Our Kindergarten Together mini course is almost ready!
It’s an amazing thing that’s going to change your family’s school year. So it’s a big deal.
Basically, you will have everything you need to understand what your child will be learning throughout Kindergarten. Lessons to build your expertise, activities, suggestions, and printables to guide you through helping your child this school year!
Now, you may be thinking, I’m not a teacher. It’s time to let the ‘experts’ take over.
And if you’re like a lot of parents, you may even be a little uncertain of how to help at home.
You may even feel replaced by your child’s teacher
You won’t be the only adult your child looks up to any longer. I totally get that. I was right there with you when my oldest started Kindergarten.
When my boys were little, I was the one who helped them learn to walk, jump, learn their colors, and play with friends. Then, as my oldest started Kindergarten, he came home to tell me that I didn’t know how to do things. Only his teacher did. And when it came to what was happening in the classroom, he was right. I had no idea how he was learning to read and write. It broke my heart.
You child is starting to stretch their wings

We all know that as much as we want our children to rely on us forever, this is a good transition. He will make new friends. She will be excited to share new concepts and skills with you after school. He will look up to his teacher. She will have amazing experiences without you. Yet, it’s not quite time to let go completely. Don’t worry, that will take another 15 years or so. As your family routines change, it’s the perfect time to create new ways to bond, laugh, and learn together..
You want to help, but you don’t know how?
You may find that your child comes home with homework that you don’t understand. What is this ‘subitizing’ that your child is talking about? How do you make the sound for K? Do I add an ‘uh’ to the end and say K-uh? How is your child learning to sound out words? Should we look at the pictures or the letters when learning to read? What the heck is phonemic awareness? And .. writing sentences by the end of Kindergarten when they can’t write their own name yet? If you’re anything like me, you’ll feel a bit lost and just want to leave it to the ‘experts’.
You must remember some words of wisdom….
“You might be thinking, “I’m a parent, not a teacher.” The great news is, whether you’ve had training or not, you are your child’s first teacher.” Nicole Taylor
