As a self-proclaimed book hoarder, nothing is better than finding an author or series that is worth collecting. These books that I’ve found are amazing. They allow your child to follow their favorite characters through all sorts of adventures, making storytime even more special.
Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems Mo Willems Workshop

- Oh my goodness! Until I began teaching Kindergarten, I didn’t know these fun books existed. The world of Elephant and Piggie is full of simple pictures, examples of friendship, and some surprisingly deep lessons. The kids love the way the author uses the print to convey meaning. A quiet yet questioning, “piggie??” to a super loud and excited, “I CAN’T WAIT!!!” Your child will love reading the stories with you, using exaggerated expressions and EXCITEMENT!!
Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin, Kimberly and James Dean songs, stories, activities

- This is another set of books that children love. Who doesn’t love a groovy cat who is laid-back, fun-loving, kind, and always ready to support his friends. These books teach compassion and self-love without the reader realizing a lesson is being taught. In Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, Pete shares … “I guess it simply goes to show that stuff will come and stuff will go. But do we cry? Goodness no! We keep singing.” I do have to say that you will also love the fact that the books are almost written in a sing-songy way.
How do Dinosaurs…books by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague

- The dinosaur obsessed kids will love these books! Brontosaurus, Megalosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, and so many more demonstrate so many proper ways to behave. They show us examples of silly, not-so-perfect dinosaur behavior, followed by the polite ways dinosaurs (and kids) should act. A pouty, stomping, not-ready-to-go-to-bed Trachodon makes way for the Dimetrodon that “tucks in his tail and says, Good Night.”
The Little Spot books by Diane Alber The Little Spot parent’s corner

- Sometimes social media can introduce you to something amazing. These books are amazing. The book A Little Spot of Kindness showed up on my feed a couple years ago. It looked interesting and I needed something about kindness for my classroom. The book was perfect. Then slowly, more and more Little Spot books came out. I collected so many. They help children learn how to manage their emotions and teach life skills. Through simple stories the children learn and grow. They loved the spots and love the stories.
Ada Twist Scientist, Aaron Slater, Illustrator, and more by Andrea Beaty The Questioners

- Ada, Rosie, Iggy, Aaron, Lila, and Sofia are Questioners. They are curious about the world and take your child on their search for answers. These characters teach your child about STEM, perseverance, and passion to learn something new. If you want to offer your child examples of what they could accomplish, start by introducing them to these Questioners.
What Do You Do With an Idea, What Do You Do With a Chance? What Do You Do With a Problem? by Kobi Yamada more books by Kobi Yamada

- These books offer your child a beautifully visual way to take on tricky problems. You give an idea space to grow. You have courage to try new things. You face your difficulties and amazing things may happen. Use these books to spark meaningful conversations with your child. They may even give you an idea or two.
So, there you have it! A collection of amazing book series that your little ones are sure to love and that will spark their love for reading. Whether it’s bedtime, a lazy afternoon, or a rainy day, these stories will provide you many hours of joy and adventure. Happy reading, and here’s to many wonderful moments to share together.
